Internet
brought us a great means of communication. It is a source of
information in your home. Internet
gives you knowledge and endless possibilities. Sadly some
people use this medium for abuse and harassment.
It is more dangerous because kids are likely to suffer.
Kids are getting tremendous knowledge from net but at the same
time they are being exposed the danger of internet abuse.
Someone
once said that you can not get every thing in
life. Every thing has its good and bad side but being
a parent we are responsible for our kid’s safety.
Internet Explorer 6 , Outlook Express and Windows
Messenger you can save your kids from dangers.
Let’s
see some useful points which will make your
computer safe.
1. Open internet Explorer and on the tool menu
click on “internet option”.
2. Click the content tab, and then click “enable”.
3. In the “Content Advisor” dialog box, click each
category and use the slider to specify basic settings.
4. If you have a list of sites you are comfortable
letting you children view at any time and a list of sites to
always prohibit them from viewing , click the
“Approved Sites” tab and enter the web addresses
accordingly.
5. Click the” General” tab and create a password,
and then write it down and store it in secure place. This
password is needed to allow viewing of restricted content and
to change any content Advisor settings.
6. Optionally, click the “Advanced” tab and specify
a rating bureau.
7. By default, users are prohibited from viewing sites
that have no rating. You may override this by selecting
“Users can see sites that have no rating”
click “OK”.

addresses you wish to place in the “Restricted Zone”.
Talk to your child about net safety. Don’t let them chat on
net. If required do it with friends and in supervision of an
adult. Tell them to keep passwords
private even from their best Friend. Never let them give
personal information or photographs to the people they meet
online. Always delete unknown e-mail attachments without
opening them. They can contain
destructive viruses. Tell them if a person writes something
that is mean or makes them feel uncomfortable, they should not
respond. Rather, they
should log off and tell you about it immediately. Always be
attentive. The net is full of information but not very safe.
