The Da
Vinci Code
One does not expect
a lot from a movie based on a book he's read, and loved. Da Vinci
Code, however, is different. The two things that made the book
interesting were a murder mystery and startling revelations about
the history of Christianity. Both these themes were held together
by an ingenious myth (which I am not going to reveal and spoil the
fun). So I did not know what good could come out of watching the
movie. It would have just a couple of hours to explore the facts
and the mystery was already over for me. But then I saw it for my
husband's sake, and I liked it! It is very enjoyable even when you
are well aware about how events unfold.
Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) is at the launch of his book on old
symbols when he receives a message about he has barely known. He
has been killed and Tom is a suspect. However Robert is not aware
of it and he enters the trap. Sphie Neveu (Audrey Tautou) helps
him get free. Why does she help him? What secrets do they unveil
during their journey? You will have to watch the movie for the
startling answers.
Needless to say the book is many times more entertaining than the
movie. But the movie does not dissapoint. The viewer remains glued
throughout the narrative. Even when most of them must have read
the book.

The movie is worth a
watch. The locations and shots produce the desired 'larger than
life' effect. There is no need to mention how impressive Hanks was.
Sophie did justice to her role. Silas (Paul Bettany) makes one hate,
fear and pity his character. Ian McKellen is also effective as Sir
Teabing. All the other actors suit their characters.
Most of the critics object to it's length (it's two and a half hours
long) but the direction is so gripping that it does not pinch. It is
something if people used to one and a half hour long movies remain
spellbound throughout.
So go ahead and get yourself a ticket!
